Take years off your face and create a natural eye-lift with a permanent cosmetic enhancement. Cosmetic tattooing is fast becoming the preferred method to apply makeup. The advantages are waking up with defined shape, colour and symmetry in your brows. Enhance sparse eyelashes and give more detail to the eye with permanent eyeliner. Lip tints which add the illusion of a fuller lip and a natural hint of colour – making it as easy as gloss and go! Life can be made easier if you have a physical or visual impairment and getting ready in the morning or evening to go out is now a breeze! People who swim or are active will love not having to worry about make up running or melting off, and it is great for those who are allergic to makeup products. The best part is it won’t wash off – but will fade naturally over time.

What are Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent cosmetics also referred to as microblading, feather touch brows, micropigmentation, 3D brows and softap is simply cosmetic tattooing. It is a specialised skill utilising a variety of techniques to apply pigment into the upper dermal layer of the skin. It is different to traditional body tattooing that implants pigment much deeper into the dermal layers and uses pigments of a different composition which are designed to maintain their colour for a long time. Cosmetic tattooing pigments are designed to fade gently over time and will exfoliate out due to the fact they are made up of much larger particles and are implanted much shallower in the skin of our face which is constantly renewing itself. It is often referred to as being semi permanent as the pigment does fade over time but technically it is permanent as no one can claim that it will fade completely.

ABOUT

About Hannah

Hannah is a fully qualified nurse with over a decade of experience to draw on. Her many years of performing highly skilled nursing procedures have proved invaluable in the training and understanding of permanent cosmetics, skin healing, precision skill level and infection control required to insure the most desirable outcome for your cosmetic enhancement. In addition to this Hannah has undergone further in depth training in colour theory for cosmetic tattooing.

As a permanent cosmetic professional, Hannah utilises multiple techniques to achieve the most natural look, this is all done using a hand held implement, or a tattoo machine. This includes mircoblading sometimes referred to as feathering to create fine hair like strokes. The ombre/powder brow and lips are created using a tattoo machine and eyeliner is achieved by using the softap technique. Not everyone is suitable for microblading so choosing a professional who offers different types of cosmetic tattooing methods ensures you receive a result that is bespoke to you. All supplies are a 100% disposable to obtain a high level of infection control and the pigments used are natural and hypo-allergenic and FDA approved.

Hannah is patient and detail orientated – you will love her gentle hand and professional manner.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It is important that you understand the process and what to expect from your cosmetic tattooing experience with Hannah. In here you will find a detailed description of how to prepare yourself before the appointment, what is involved during the procedure and how to care for your cosmetic tattoo after. Please read this information so you can plan accordingly for this. The final result is achieved over 2 appointments. After your first appointment, a follow up appointment is requires 6-8 weeks later to touch up and perfect the area. This is a two part process.

In order to achieve the best results it is important your skin is in optimal condition. Much like a professional painter would prepare the area to paint by sanding, filling and using an undercoat we too need to make sure your skin is prepared. Please avoid the following in the lead up to your appointment:

  • Please do not take pain relief before your appointment unless it is a part of your daily medication prescription routine – they can cause bleeding which can affect the retention of pigment. Hannah will insure you are comfortable.
  • If you take Fish Oil supplements or Vitamin E please stop one week prior as these are natural blood thinners.
  • If you take Roaccutane or Accutane for acne you must have finished this 6 months prior before having your procedure.
  • Do not have Botox for 3 weeks prior.
  • Do not tan for 3 weeks prior or have sunburn, no fake tan on the face.
  • No facial treatments that involve peels, microdermabrasion or skin needling for a month prior to the procedure.
  • Do not use active skin products that contain AHA, Retinol A or Vitamin A products on or around the area for a month prior to the procedure.
  • Do not drink any alcohol or coffee 24 hours before your appointment.

If you wax, pluck or tint your eyebrows this must not be done 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Please allow at least 2 ½ hours for your first appointment and 1 ½ hours for your follow up.  Hannah will measure and style your brows, lips or eyeliner and discuss your expectations and answer any question you have. Once you are happy with your enhanced brow design or discussed eyeliner or lip tint, a suitable pigment colour is chosen. Hannah can mix colours to achieve the best match based on your skin tone. She will apply a topical aesthetic that numbs your skin and will continue to apply this during the procedure so you remain comfortable. Hannah follows strict infection control protocols and uses disposable implements to create either fine – hair like stokes (microblading) or to add a soft shaded background or powder brow (softap or digital machine), and to create eyeliner or lip tints. Pigment is deposited into the upper skin layers using a hand held implement or digital machine.

Measuring and design

Hannah will go over the after care in detail with you so you understand your responsibilities to ensure the best healing outcome, a hand out will be given to you to follow along with a cream specially formulated for cosmetic tattooing aftercare. The area treated will appear very intense, exact and darker in colour due to the pigment oxidising when first treated – but this won’t last! The skin heals from epidermal layer up and as it does there will be 10% – 40% loss in pigment colour and a slight shrinking in shape. Healing is different for everyone but some peeling or flaking of skin is normal – DO NOT PICK!  You can expect some pigment loss during the healing this is why it is a two part procedure. Hannah asks you to avoid the following so please plan for this procedure accordingly.

  • No swimming for 2 weeks after, including spa baths/hot tubs.
  • No exercises or heavy sweating for a week.
  • No makeup on the area until completely healed
  • No Botox for 3 weeks after final procedure
  • Do not EVER use products containing AHA, Retinol A or Vitamin A as these products will remove pigment colour from your eyebrows.

The follow up appointment is an important step in completing the procedure and needs to be made 4-6 weeks after your initial appointment. This is where we will fine tune and perfect areas that have faded too much and make colour adjustments if needed.

You will require a colour refresh approx every 1.5 years after the first procedure. You can expect your brow, eyeliner or lip tattoo last anywhere from 1-3 years depending on the area and technique used. Colour retention will vary between individuals and is affected by a person’s lifestyle, skin type, medications, sun exposure, and the use of certain skin care products, age, smoking, frequency of exercising and metabolism.

FAQs

Is cosmetic tattooing suitable for everyone?

Not always! If you have extremely oily skin the microblading technique may not work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused look so strokes are not so crisp looking. In this case a powdered brow technique may be better suited. If you are a very active person who works out a lot you may also be better suited to a powder brow. The reason being that the salts naturally produced during sweating can cause premature fading which is more common in microblading. Medical conditions and medication can also determine your suitability, if you are on blood thinners or fish oil you will be required to stop these and seek Doctors approval if prescribed. Hannah only accepts previous cosmetic tattoos done elsewhere with caution and will refer you for removal first if required. Hannah completes detailed client paperwork during consultation so it is important that you disclose anything that may affect your suitability.

Do you remove all my brow hair?

No absolutely not! I try to retain as much of your natural hair as possible and work to enhance your natural features. Brow hair that is outside the perimeters of the brow design will only be removed.

Does it hurt?

Hannah uses a topical anaesthetic to numb your skin during the procedure so discomfort is very minimal. Hannah’s years of experience nursing have given her a good understanding of pain management. She will reapply anaesthetic as needed throughout the procedure and focuses on good technique so your experience is as comfortable as possible.

What is the down time?

None! You can leave the clinic after the procedure and carry on as normal. Some pinkness may be present for an hour or so after. Lips and eyeliner can cause some swelling but this subsides after 24hrs.  If you have an important event or trip away Hannah asks that you plan accordingly for this as no makeup can be used on the treated area while healing and aftercare involves cleansing the area and applying the provided lotion that is included in your after care. Further to this swimming and heavy sweating is not permitted during the healing period.

How is colour chosen?

Hannah has undergone further in depth training in colour theory for cosmetic tattooing. Your skin type and hair colour will guide this process and other factors specific to you are taken into consideration so modifications can be made to ensure an appropriate healed result. Multiple shades are rubbed onto your forehead to determine the best shade. Hannah can also mix colours to find the perfect match specifically for you.

If I am pregnant or breastfeeding can I get a cosmetic tattoo?

No you cannot, but once you are no longer breast feeding you can.

How long will the tattoo last?

Results are varied on each individual’s skin type and how your body heals. You may still want to pencil in brows once they healed to achieve a bolder look and with special occasion make up but you will have an easy guide to follow. The technique used microblading vs. powdered brow, lifestyle choices and our individual bodies’ responses all affect the long term outcome. Cosmetic tattooing is not an exact science but typically between 1 -3 yrs depending on the area treated and technique used. For example powder brows last longer than microblading so are a great option for active people who work out a lot or oily skin types.

How often will I need a colour refresh?

Appox 1.5 – 2 years to maintain its fresh natural appearance. If your shape is still present then Hannah can give you a colour refresh but if you leave it too long so no shape is present it is considered a full treatment again.

How long will my appointment be?

2.5 – 3 hours. The first part of the appointment Hannah will go through her consultation form with you and obtain a medical history. Then she will design the outline of your desired brow shape or lip couture and eyelash enhancement.  Once you are happy and approve the pre draw design Hannah will then perform the procedure, and will then spend time thoroughly educating you on after care.

Look fabulous 👏👏👏

2020 has been a hell of a year!

I have not seen my husband for 1/2 a year, he has not hugged his children for 1/2 a year. It has been hard but this piece of writing is how I have got through. If you have found it hard I hope this helps too ❤️ Hannah.

Pooh woke up that morning, and, for reasons that he didn't entirely understand, couldn't stop the tears from coming. He sat there in bed, his little body shaking, and he cried, and cried, and cried.

Amidst his sobs, the phone rang.

It was Piglet.

"Oh Piglet," said Pooh, between sobs, in response to his friend's gentle enquiry as to how he was doing. "I just feel so Sad. So, so, Sad, almost like I might not ever be happy again. And I know that I shouldn't be feeling like this. I know there are so many people who have it worse off than me, and so I really have no right to be crying, with my lovely house, and my lovely garden, and the lovely woods all around me. But oh, Piglet: I am just SO Sad."

Piglet was silent for a while, as Pooh's ragged sobbing filled the space between them. Then, as the sobs turned to gasps, he said, kindly: "You know, it isn't a competition."

"What isn't a competition?" asked a confused sounding Pooh.

"Sadness. Fear. Grief," said Piglet. "It's a mistake we often make, all of us. To think that, because there are people who are worse off than us, that that somehow invalidates how we are feeling. But that simply isn't true. You have as much right to feel unhappy as the next person; and, Pooh - and this is the really important bit - you also have just as much right to get the help that you need."

"Help? What help?" asked Pooh. "I don't need help, Piglet.

"Do I?"

Pooh and Piglet talked for a long time, and Piglet suggested to Pooh some people that he might be able to call to talk to, because when you are feeling Sad, one of the most important things is not to let all of the Sad become trapped inside you, but instead to make sure that you have someone who can help you, who can talk through with you how the Sad is making you feeling, and some of the things that might be able to be done to support you with that.

What's more, Piglet reminded Pooh that this support is there for absolutely everyone, that there isn't a minimum level of Sad that you have to be feeling before you qualify to speak to someone.

Finally, Piglet asked Pooh to open his window and look up at the sky, and Pooh did so.

"You see that sky?" Piglet asked his friend. "Do you see the blues and the golds and that big fluffy cloud that looks like a sheep eating a carrot?"

Pooh looked, and he could indeed see the blues and the golds and the big fluffy cloud that looked like a sheep eating a carrot.

"You and I," continued Piglet, "we are both under that same sky. And so, whenever the Sad comes, I want you to look up at that sky, and know that, however far apart we might be physically...we are also, at the same time, together. Perhaps, more together than we have ever been before."

"Do you think this will ever end?" asked Pooh in a small voice.

"This too shall pass," confirmed Piglet. "And I promise you, one day, you and I shall once again sit together, close enough to touch, sharing a little smackerel of something...under that blue gold sky."

We all need a piglet in our lives.
